March 6, 2006 - To Whom it May Concern

I have discovered my fathers war time diary of 1944 and I am in the process of transcribing it to electronic form.

In 1944 he was a signalman of the 17th Line of Communication and upon its name change the 20th Line of Communications.

His diary indicates the army was camped close to Breakaway Creek, as he and others sprayed the creek in order to keep the mosquitoes down. In addition he describes the effect of heavy rain and the resulting flooding of the bridges into town. The camp was apparently within walking distance of the town and close enough to enable him to attend the pictures several time a week.

I am seeking any information relating to war time Mt Isa and the the army camp. I would grateful for a map of the area in, if I am lucky as it was in 1944.

Thank you in advance

November 29, 2005 - I am looking for FRANCIS MORAN (MOREN).
In the 1950's, she lived in the 'tent houses' behind where the Barkly Hotel is now. Her house was very near the river and just off Petunia Street. She was a school friend and it would be great if someone there remembers her and could put me in touch.
